10 Ways To Avoid Acne

Acne is a problem that affects almost 90% of all adolescents, and many adults as well. The acne treatment industry does billions of dollars of sales annually, but the easiest and cheapest way to treat acne, is to avoid getting it in the first place. This can easily be done in a variety of ways. Here are ten simple ways to avoid acne.

1. Keep your face clean. Make it a habit to wash your face at least three times a day. This is an excellent way to avoid acne. Do not scrub hard, as this will only irritate your skin. Gently wash your face well with a mild cleanser, then pat it dry - don't rub.

2. Keep your hair off your face. Hair has natural oils in it, even if it doesn't appear to be oily. When that oil comes into contact with your skin, it can cause an acne breakout. Keep your hair cut short around your face, or use barrets or other accessories to hold it off your face. Many people don't realize that this is a way to avoid acne.

3. Eat a balanced diet. This is one of the easiest ways to avoid acne breakouts. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and avoid oily foods. If you notice acne breakouts occurring after eating certain foods, avoid those foods, and replace it with something else.

4. Drink plenty of water. Water is a great way to avoid acne, because it helps to detoxify your body, removing all the bacteria and waste that your body does not need. Acne begins on the inside of the body - not on the surface of the skin, and therefore, it should be treated, and prevented, from the inside, out.

5. Exercise is another way to avoid acne. When we exercise our brains produce chemicals that our bodies need. We also sweat, which helps to detoxify the body. Just make sure that you shower after exercising - don't just wipe away the sweat - shower to wash away excess sweat that you cannot wipe away.

6. Use natural cosmetics. The hypo-alergenic cosmetics offer another way to avoid acne. However, if possible, don't use any cosmetics or lotions at all. This serves to keep your skin as clean as possible at all times. If you do use cosmetics, make sure that you completely remove all of the makeup and wash your face well before going to sleep.

7. Don't pop or squeeze the pimples. This will only serve to spread the bacteria that causes acne to other areas of the skin, and it will also leave acne scars. Avoiding popping the pimples is one of the best ways to avoid acne breakouts in the future.

8. Unless you are washing your face, try to avoid touching it. Your fingers contain oil, and our hands are very susceptible to bacteria, which is why we wash them often. Keeping your hands off your face is a great way to avoid acne.

9. If you wear glasses, another way to avoid acne is to remove your glasses, and clean the parts of the glasses that touch your skin daily. Also, when you wash your face, pay extra attention to the area of your face where your glasses touch your skin.

10. Stay out of the sun. Sunshine causes us to produce extra sebum, which is a natural oil that is produced by the skin glands. Excess sebum causes acne, so avoiding the sun is a way to avoid acne. Furthermore, certain acne medications make us more sensitive to the sun, and more susceptible to skin cancers.

Five Things You Should Know About Adult Asthma

Dr. Mariko Koh, Director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory and Asthma Programme at Singapore General Hospital, tell us more about adult asthma:
1.     Chronic inflammation of the airways. When the airways are inflamed, mucus forms, obstructing airflow, causing breathlessness, wheezing and tightness in the chest.
2.     Common triggers.
Exposure to all allergens such dust mites, cockroaches, pets and pollen can trigger asthma. Tobacco smoke, respiratory infections, exercise and some medications like aspirin and beta blockers are also possible triggers.
3. There is no cure. But asthma can be controlled with medication. The mainstay of asthma treatment is inhaled corticosteroids to reduce inflammation and obstruction of the airways. Reliever medications may be used to treat acute symptoms. Take note: It is not too late to take medication after asthma attack.
4.     Take medication daily. To ensure good control over asthma, medication must be taken daily on a long term basis to prevent attacks. Also, go to your doctor for regular checkups.

Animo Wellness ‘live green’ tips

  • Adjust your computer: Be sure you are not straining your neck to look down or up at your computer monitor. It should be visible ahead.
  • Switch ears: If you are constantly on the telephone with the receiver to the same ear, switch sides often. If you rest the phone on your shoulder, failure to switch sides can cause muscle imbalance, tension headaches, and neck and shoulder stiffness.
  • Remodel your work area: periodically rearrange your work area, especially items you frequently reach for. This will prevent your body from developing muscle imbalance due to repetitive stress.
  • Stress is a major factor in unnecessary office snacking. Pre-pack baby carrots, fruits and veggies to bring with you when you feel the need to nibble.
  • What to nibble on: carrots and other veggies can satisfy the need for crunchy food; fruits, like grapes, help curb the need for something sweet. Gum is great, too.
  • Keep a food diary: It may seem like a chore, but jotting down everything you eat, even for only one week, and your feelings that moment, may shed light on your work eating habits.
  • Make a meal plan. Write everything you will eat for the whole week, keeping in mind when and how long you will work out on certain days.
  • Saying “No!” out loud brings you back into the present, preventing mindless eating, and makes you aware of your choice not to partake.
  • Lunch breaks are not just for lunch. Walk for half of your lunch hour. It reduces physical and emotional stress and is great way to stay in shape.
  • Drink plenty of water. This helps keep your body hydrated and working efficiently.

Is your hair should use shampoo everyday to look it's best?

Well, it depends in our hair type. Women with fine hair have to shampoo everyday, or their hair look oily and flat. Use a gentle formula and concentrate on the roots-it's your scalp that produces oil, not your hair. Follow with a lightweight conditioner applied just to the ends. My mother used to shampoo her hair two to three times a week, but her hair looks beautiful and soft. Women with thick, curly, or course hair can go two to three days without shampooing; in fact, natural oils may make their hair look better. But if your hair gets greasy at the crown, sprinkle dry shampoo on your roots to soak up the oil. Brush it through your hair and you're ready to go.
